You Can’t Handle the Truth!
One of our highly acclaimed segments– You Can’t Handle the Truth! Here’s how it works. During the first segment of our program, each of our guests reads a rumor related to our show topic. Blended learning offers a rich variety of experiences through which students can engage with the content and understand different perspectives. This approach is particularly helpful for elementary educators who are used to providing a wide variety of activities for their students. Integrating technology into that experience can be challenging for some. One teacher at an elementary school in Washington state found a great way to integrate technology with hand drawn art. As part of a Children’s Art Walk in the city’s center, the teacher had students create paper mosaics of a flower in a pot. The technology component was the use of a QR code where those who attended the show could listen to an audio recoding of the student describing their art work. A few people stood around scanning QR codes and enjoying the young fourth grade artist’s description. One recording, however, made those looking at the show stop and think. This particular child started their description with their full name, first, middle, and last, precise birthday, and where they live. He also gave his parent’s name, occupation, and place of work. It became clear that something as innocent as an art show could easily expose a naive child to loss of privacy.
